TASTE OF ASIA FESTIVAL

The first Taste of Asia Festival (TOFA) was organized by the Federation of Chinese Canadians of Markham (FCCM) in 2003 to help Chinese businesses recover from the backlash of SARS.  It was a one day festival and was a lot of fun.

Since 2004, FCCM and the Association are jointly organizing this two-day street festival.  Dr. Ken Ng, President of FCCM, is Chairman and Mobeen Khaja, President of the Association of Progressive Muslims, is Co-Chair.   The two organizations are working together to develop and expand this street festival into a truly Asian multicultural festival that is now held over 2 days - the last Saturday and Sunday in June, just before Canada Day.

This festival has been supported by the Town of Markham and several other organizations, and the Trillium Foundation since 2005.  Market Village and Remington Group have been the main sponsors from the start.

A section of Kennedy Road, North of Steeles Avenue, adjacent to Market Village and Pacific Mall, is closed for this street festival.  Asian ethnic cuisines, non-stop music and performances by many ethno-cultural groups on an outdoor stage as well as an indoor stage in Market Village, games, exhibitions and various activities for all ages, are some of the highlights of this festival.

Admission and parking are free.  Shuttle buses run from the parking lots of the Town of Markham, GO Station, Milliken Community Centre and Denison Centre, to enable people to get to the festival site easily.  More than 50,000 people attend over the two-day period.
